Disciplemaking friends learn together again this morning
June 27, 2014
While havering with my disciplemaking friends David Miranda and Mark Cody this morning, the Holy Spirit gave us some ah-ha's from Matthew 28:16-20 concerning friends, doubting and trusting. Jesus was disciplemaking friends with the eleven disciples yet some of them still doubted. You could say there were still some things in their friendship that they didn't take him at his word–trust him about. Yet, some doubting did not deter Jesus from encouraging them still more with his personal assurance– "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” His encouragement (courage giving) to them was "him." They could count on "him"–take "him" at his word. He will ALWAYS be "with" them. So, friends, our doubts become fewer as our friendship with Jesus grows over time. Because trust increases over time as our friendship grows. Jesus, our friend and courage giver, tells us here to live the simplicity of the Jesus-like disciplemaking way of life wherever we go. Disciplemaking is not something else we do, it's a way of life we live. And, we can count on Jesus to be there "with" us every step of the way.
